Personal Interests

My name is RAMADAN DARWISH I live in ALEXANDRIA, EGYPT.I am interested in some plants such as Orchid, Cactus, Succulents, Cycads and Zamia.

       At my first beginning in 1986 few of Egyptian used to know these plants, so I looked for them and we formed a group who has the goal of society for people interested in these plants and developing this hobby. We visit evryone we hear that he has one or more of these plants and this takes a lot of our spare time. At the beginning we met some troubles but at the end we succeeded to let many people know about these plants. Now we are all in touch.

As I am a member of this Egyptian group, I am trying to let you know a little bit about my collection:

Orchids:

          I've been growing orchids about fourteen years now. My greenhouse is located in my home. Up now there is few people grow this plant, I have some kinds of this plant such as CATTLEYA, PAPHIOPEDIULUM, and VANDA. I success to make some kinds of this plant bloom in the Egyptian climate condition but only in a small scale. I get the information I need from specialized book or from the internet In Egypt some plant farms export blooming plants during Egyptian and national feasts and many people are interesting in buying the blooming plants but they don’t' have enough experience to take care about them, there for I have small collection of Orchids. I wish to cooperate with ORCHIDS lovers in Egypt or overseas.

CACTUS:

        I am one member of Egyptian cactus and succulents group, I think that our group have most of the main species. In fact some kinds of cactus and succulents are foun in our country but not in great scale, now I think that our collection have most interesting and rear kinds. We will be pleasure to know about you and your collection.
